John Denver became a star through the folk-inspired songs he wrote, most of which were set in Colorado. He was born Henry John Deutschendorf Jr. in Roswell New Mexico he fell in love with Colorado and then moved to Aspen. Denver's songs for his home state have attracted many people to Colorado. G. Brown, curator of the Colorado Music Hall of Fame said that John Denver is the only performer to embody Colorado. Denver was the Hall of Fame's first ever to be inducted. For many, Denver is the Colorado image. People you meet in other countries, like New Zealanders. They tell them "I come from Colorado" And they react with Oh John Denver. Brown declared. Take Me Home Country Roads - cowritten with Bill Danoff - was Denver's first Top 10 single as a solo artist following a short time in small folk groups. Danoff wrote the track to Johnny Cash but Denver recognized the song's potential when he first heard it. After performing to an excited audience in Washington D.C., the performer recorded the track.
