Take Me Home Country Roads - cowritten with Bill Danoff - was Denver's first Top 10 single as a solo artist following a short time in small folk groups. Danoff wrote the track to Johnny Cash but Denver recognized the song's potential when he first heard it. After performing to an excited audience in Washington D.C., the performer recorded the track.
